Until 2016, there were thousands and millions of rubles in Belarus. Due to the existence of a banknote of 100,000 rubles, there was a joke that all millionaires in Belarus. However, in 2016 there was a denomination in the country – the new money “lost” 4 zeros at once.
Belarusian rubles in 2000 have now been withdrawn from circulation. They can’t pay in shops and other places. Money in 2000 can be exchanged for modern money, but only in Belarus: from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2021 – only in the National Bank of Belarus. Tourists often ask how much money to take to Belarus? The exact answer depends on how you are going to rest, but we do not recommend taking large sums of cash. There are enough ATMs in Belorussia, so you can always withdraw the right amount.
American Express, Visa, MasterCard bank cards are accepted almost everywhere in Belarus. The only exceptions are small family restaurants, mini-hotels and souvenir shops. With the card of the Russian payment system “MIR” it will not be possible to pay for purchases by cashless payment. However, you can withdraw money from it, but only at ATMs of VTB Belarus Bank.
